I've always felt that money has only 2 "redeeming" qualities. To help further the work of God, and to help someone else who needs the help, and are less fortunate.

All of us live in a world where it takes money to survive. If we know someone needs financial help, we should give it. None of us are rich, but we can make a difference. I've always found it difficult to receive than to give. However, it's a two way street. Sometimes we give, sometimes we receive.

Someone earlier in the thread said: when you give you get. That's very true. Even though that's not the motivation for giving, that actually is a Biblical promise.

Lots of good points people - and reading the replies makes me want to add, sure, if I was financially set I would probably say no, and that I really didn't need it, but I have debt and money troubles so when someone offers it's really nice.  I always think if I was more financially stable I would give more, but I make donations to a baby pantry in my town versus selling my son's old clothes at a garage sale because I feel better when I give back since they have helped me so much!

yea, I would accept it.  I give my kids money all the time.  They are young, but I can't see that stopping when they get older!

I find that if someone offers a gift, even if it is money, it would be more rude to reject it then to accept and say thank you.

On this one I think it varies on a case by case basis with a lot being considered of the parties involved.  If a family memeber is trying to help another family member out it is probably ok.  If a complete stranger offers you money it would require more analysis.  If it is a representative of a company again more information would be required.

Times are hard, so when someone offers me money I would take.  I do not turn away money, and if I can help someone I will.

Family yes, friends no (because then I'll think that I owe them something, even if they say I dont)

It's depend.  But in your case I'll accept it.  Because sometime is a good deed they want to give to express their love to you and it's rude if you not accepting it.

One time I didn't, wished that I did.  But I really think at that time they needed it more than I did.  Because they only asked once.  I think it was my grandfather, so I didn't feel right about taking it.

It depends entirely upon the situation. For the most part I try not to accept money from anyone but with my job situation I will occasionally borrow from my parents. They could afford to just give it to me but I always pay them back. Especially since I am living with them rent free right now. I like to be as independent as possible and feel like I'm not right now. :(
