Underwater or Not
« on: April 19, 2011, 12:32:42 pm »
I have nephews who enjoy watching the cartoon, Sponge Bob Square Pants. I am not a fan of this show. I know the characters are suppose to live underwater, but I've seen many things which could contradict this. The things like fire and a working stove will be excluded. These examples below will show the water around them being ignored or forgotten.

  • The beach Sponge Bob goes to, has its own body of water.
  • Sponge Bob learning how to surf, to return home.
  • The crab fished for a giant US dollar bill.
  • Sponge Bob lost his Pineapple house, was given a seed, and one tear made it quickly grow.
  • Squidward watering his lawn.
  • After a shower, Sponge Bob has a gadget to dry himself off.
  • - After drying himself off, Sponge Bob said he would be all wet without it.
  • - When Sponge Bob got stuck in that drying gadget, thanks to his idiot friend, tears got him free.

When these characters actually come out of water, their appearance changes which didn't happen in the examples above. This is a cartoon made for small kids, I understand that.

Have you noticed the examples above or any other which contradicts them being underwater?

Just like all TV, I don't think it was created to make sense, just to entertain us, have you ever seen a soap opera, haha. It is childs play. cute though.

I find it funny that they need a lifeguard at the beach which implies that they can drown.

Most cartoons don't make sense. It's just mindless entertainment, for the most part.

i noticed that too, found it hilarious!
but i get it, its a cartoon so it doesn't necessarily have to make sense, its just supposed to be entertaining. if the show was presented as an educational program then i would understand there being a problem
