Mental illness running rampant in biblical days
« on: October 15, 2010, 10:08:13 am »
Now days if you hear people say that God tells them to kill, you think they're nuts (with good reason, I might add) but back in biblical days it was done. I hear  a lot of stories on the news with people claiming God tells them to do stuff, like murder their kids or people for sins or whatever.

Back in biblical days, they killed all first born sons, could you imagine in todays world, if someone said they have to kill your children?

I think people were running rampant with mental illness back then.

Please study your Bible.  Killing of the first born was a curse on Pharoh because he wouldn't let His Chosen People leave Egypt.  Ever heard of the "parting of the Red Sea" thing??
Have a wonderful day!

i really had to laugh marieelisa, but gaylasue does have a point, i'm not christian but i was raised that way and killing the first born along with the other parts of the plague was because pharaoh wouldn't let the people go.

Yeah you're a bit off with the facts Marie, but I'm still shocked that people worship a deity without question when it puts such horrific and unjust curses on children (but I'm sure someone will quote 50 bible verses to make murdering children a-ok!). And you're right on with people saying that god tells them to do horrific things. X-Pres Bush said in an interview that god told him to invade Iraq-

Unknowing that the same excuse is used with such things as this-

It's really sick that this mental-excuse is used with such power even in today's world-- such primitive thinking in a world that should value common sense. Overall these people obviously have problems and it leads me to believe that the stories in the bible with the main characters saying that a god is telling them to do stuff (good or bad)-- it's the same thing here. They're usually schizos that hear voices in their heads. I think you said that you have a similar problem, Marie. But the fact that you're calling their bluff is a good thing and I'm glad you're thinking outside the dangerous box. +1 INT for you.
