Cinnamon Ornaments
This is a great project to do with your kids. I first did this with the kids in the pre-school class I was teaching. They loved it! The results are great, and they smell great for years to come!

What You Need:

1 1/2 Cups ground cinnamon

1 Cup Applesauce

1/4 Cup white school glue

Rolling pin

Waxed paper

Cookie cutters

a straw

yarn, ribbon or string

Mix the cinnamon, applesauce and glue together in a large bowl. (Let the kids measure out the ingredients and mix up the dough). The dough should be the consistency of cookie dough. Add a tiny amount of water if it seems too dry.
Remove the dough from the bowl and knead it for a few minutes. Return dough to the bowl, cover it with plastic wrap and let sit for about half an hour.
Remove the dough from the bowl again and knead for a few more minutes to ensure that the dough is smooth.
Place dough between two layers of waxed paper and roll out the dough with the rolling pin until it is about 1/4" thick.
Using the cookie cutters, cut dough into desired shapes. Use the straw to punch a hole for hanging.
Place the shapes on a cookie sheet covered with waxed paper.
Allow to dry for 3-5 days. You need to turn the ornaments several times during the drying process, otherwise the ornaments will curl at the edges.
Once dry, thread ribbon, yarn or string though the hole, and tie at the ends.
These can be further decorated with textured or dimensional paints, beads, sequins, or glitter. Also for an alternative to the project, use a holly leaf cookie cutter, and group them together to make a wreath.
