Benefits of Working Out When Pregnant
« on: January 04, 2011, 01:24:23 pm »
So are there any experts on here that can tell me?  Will my labor go better?  Someone once told me if I walk for a half an hour a day the labor would go better - I actually work out (heart racing) for a half an hour probably 4 days a week.

Well... if you are pregnant and never exercised before pregnancy there can be complications such as changes in blood pressure
the later you get in the pregnancy the less aggressive your workout should be (most likely, but your Dr. should determine this).
walking at the end of the pregnancy is really good because your body may handle the labor better, but will also recover after pregnancy easier.

All exercise should be discussed with your physician though so that you are medically monitorred.  Pregnancy can be difficult on the female body for sure!

First and foremost you should take to you doctor about your exercising habits while you are pregnant.  But there is nothing wrong with walking.  You don't want to over due it but walking is good.  It's not a guarantee that your labor will go better.  But exercising alot constantly isn't a good idea.

most of the people said that walking can make the labor go better, I didn't walk a lot, I just do homework which is also a kind of exercise, when it was time for my labor 6 month ago, it was not so bad, Anyway, walking is good.

I am not an expert.

I did give birth to 4 babies and had very easy deliveries.  I walked a lot for all four.  With #2, I was an Aerobics instructor and taught classes through the 7th month of pregnancy.  With # 3 and #4, I was swimming laps a mile a day until 2 weeks prior to due date.

I was active before pregnancy and during pregnancy because it is part of my lifestyle.

If you haven't been actively exercising before pregnancy, I would get advice from your doctor.
