It should be called "Crack Friday"
« on: November 26, 2010, 04:13:43 am »
I went with my husband to Wal-Mart when they started their midnight sales for Black Friday thinking I may be able to scoop up our last few holiday gifts for a good price, and it was insane.  I first had to quickly get out of the way of a throw down fight over a DVD (I would be more sympathetic if it was a tv or laptop, but a DVD??) when I found a box of plastic collage picture frames...a box with at least 20 frames in it.  I picked one up to look at it, and had it promptly pulled from my hands by this cracked out gray haired lady who said to me "fighting over a movie, can you believe it?" and then she walked off.  I guess it took just too much effort to bend over slightly to pull one out of the box herself.   :angry7:

I promptly left and said we should try K Mart later, where I used some birthday money I got from my brother to buy myself a camcorder, bluetooth headset, and memory card for $34... and I didn't have to wait in the checkout line for 2 hours for this... and I didn't have anyone try to swipe the stuff out of my hands.  I also got my daughter a Tag Junior and extra Elmo Tag Junior book for part of her holiday gift with my Fusion Cash money.

Could be her view was stunted because she was over 60.

That is just crazy.  I rarely venture out on Black Friday and would NEVER consider going to Wal-Mart......Sorry, but that's just crazy.  I might run out to Target later because they ahve a cute jacket on sale but then again, I mjght just stay home and try to do a survey.

I once waited in line in the freezing cold to go to a toy store at 4am and they didn't even have anything I wanted so I bought a game of Yatzee for $4 that is still unopened in the basement. I saw a good deal on a XBox360 at target for today but I do not want to have to use hostile force to get something.

Title was funny but the way people act it should be called that. Too hectic for me to participate in though.

I don't have the patience to deal with any of that, would rather stay home.

Everyone at stores seems a bit crazy. I saw some people just crab things they saw and put into the cart.
Maybe it should call crazy friday?!

I should hope not.  People who are over 60 don't have a built in excuse for being jerks.  I've known many people over that age, both of my parents included, who have a very sound grip on what is right and what is wrong... In fact, I wouldn't dare speculate about your age, Annella, but I would include you in that group.

When we went to K Mart later in the morning, people were actually helping each other out to get what they came for... a man actually overheard me talking to my husband about the $20 camcorder I wanted to buy with my birthday money, and he asked me which color I wanted and handed me one.  I understand people wanting to get the good deals, but there is no reason to lose all sense of propriety in the process.  We all must be the example we wish to see in the world, otherwise, regardless of whether hell is a real destination for an afterlife, we would already be there.  I believe there are many people out there who are still good at heart... so many just seem to forget it when it comes to "Crack" Friday.

I found out later when I went back to Wal-Mart when the rush had passed that during that fight, the two women had actually hit a police officer and knocked him to the ground.  Talk about an extreme case of the crazies and the hypocrites out today!  As a civilization, we have no need to worry about zombies as long as this type of rampant greed that erases any sense of altruism exists.  :sad1:

It was a joke (taken from your words on another thread).  I thought you would have recognized the irony (dry humor).

Standing in line in the middle of the night, camping out in line, just to be the first to buy merchandise seems absurd to me.  Consumerism at it's finest!  I read last year that an employee of Wal Mart got "trampled" to death, when they opened the doors on black friday.  What value do we put on a human life in dollars and cents?  All in the name of wanton greed.  Shameful :angry7:

I don't remember the joke!  LOL, sorry about that.

It is insane, honestly.  I was far from prepared to stand out in the cold for any amount of time to try to get "stuff".  It blows my mind the extremes people will take to save a buck or two.  While I am happy with what I bought, I doubt I'd ever do it again.  We went back to Wal-Mart at 5 Friday evening, and the specials were still going on, we just had to pick through stuff to find something we wanted.  I'd rather shop at a thrift shop, online through cheapcycle or craigslist, or come back when the crazies have gone to bed.
