haven't been to the zoo in a while but I think they are open year round???  I just think they keep the animals indoors.  I know there are some zoos that have "winter wonerland"  activities during the holidays.

I'm know the detroit zoo is open year round.  I don't think zoos close when it gets cold.  You get a better chance of seeing some of the animals in action, like polar bears, penguins...

Ours closes from Oct - March or April. They do have Zoo Boo and a holiday lights. The only outdoor animals they have year round are the wolves. They keep there indoor reptile exhibits all year. Most of the other animals are from hot climates in Africa and they do not have indoor capacity to keep them hear in the cold. (MI) It is a smaller local zoo though.

The closest zoo to me is the Great Plains Zoo & Delbridge Museum.  Located in Sioux Falls, SD.

OPEN YEAR-ROUND

April – September
9am-6pm (grounds clear at 7pm)

October – March
10am-4pm (grounds clear at 5pm)
Closed: Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day & New Years Day

*Because the zoo remains open year round, some animals may be off display, and some exhibits may be closed due to weather.

Back home in Texas they are but I'm sure that's because it's 80 degrees in the winter!  hahahah
