Yes emails and a real check in the mail from a real bank in Washington state. I think it was for $4,700 and looked very real. They wanted me to cash it and send them a fee for alot more. I considered just depositing it to see what happened but I'm sure my bank would have charged me when it bounced.

I get them all the time from non US countries. They all seem to follow the same exact format and ask you for the same information to send them in order to CLAIM your prize (LOL)  ::)

I had a friend that fell for one of those lottery scams... She was always entering in her e-mail address for a bunch of different raffles and drawings, so she didn't think twice when she got an e-mail notice saying she'd won the 3rd place prize of $50K (sneeky to say it was only 3rd place instead of the grand prize). She only had to pay a $5 processing fee and give her home address before they got the "check" from their winning ticket. And of course when they got the check, it bounced and so they had to pay the bank for the bounced check. And becuase it was a foreign country, they couldn't sue them to get their money back. Costly mistake, but I'm sure my friend has learned her lesson not to trust everything you get from e-mail.

Yes, figured they're all scams, so I've never answered them.

Another version of the same thing, is the notice that you are a beneficiary for x.x million dollars/pounds -- just send lots of personal identifing information  -(for ID theft?) -- another type of scam.

Generally believe, that if the offer sounds to good to be true, it's not.  So beware of anything you're offered on the net.

I have seen an increase in these, I mark these as spam and don't open them. People keep waiting on that one nieve person to answer it, of course there is one in a million.

Yes I agree with you all it is a shame that people are so mean that they have to try to cheat people to get there way up the money tree.  I never answered it or anything just deleted it and checked it out on a search engine alot of problems out there.  The better business review has a listing of the ones that is the worst right now that they have checked out.  So does Clark Howard site.

The con artists are always sending  out checks like that and they always look legit.  I received a check for almost $4,000 with my name on it with a different address telling me they were withholding so much for taxes.  Scams like that immediately go thru my paper shredder.  They are always looking for the gullible and naive to fall for stuff like this.
