I'm admittedly addicted to texting so yes...I might text during a date but only if it's an emergency or an important text (ie. the babysitter) and I would of course apologize for having to take and reply to a text during a date.  I see it as taking an important call.

Dang that is rude. People should leave their phone on silent. If the phone rings or vibrates loudly, apologize to the date, and quickly turn off the phone.

I would not be texting while I was out for dinner on a date.  I think texting is very rude and disrespectful.
