Depends on what brought it on.

If it's due to a cold/bug/virus, use cough drops to keep the throat lubricated along with warm tea with honey and any other home remedy or Nyquil et al to help you sleep and let your body get rid of the bug.

If it's due to allergies and it's been around for a while, try any of the otc zyrtec generics to keep it under control.

(I use to get larengitis every winter -- blamed it on colds -- took contac or its equivalent to stop of post nasal ddrip - still got larengitis.  Finally saw a doctor who put me on Zyrtec and it worked great!  Zyrtec is now OTC and several drug stores have their own generic version and those are alot cheaper.)

If all else fails, and it hasn't improve in a week, see a doctor.

Warm salt water will help a little but mostly all you can do is keep your fluids high and your rest even higher!

You may also want to look into airborne or emergen-c, if anything use them as a preventative in the future

I've heard that Airborne works really well, but have never tried it. When i get sore throats, I will fix myself hot toddies....about a 1/4 cup of lemon juice in a mug, fill the rest with water, a shot of whiskey and honey to sweeten it up a bit. Then nuke it in the microwave for about 1 to 2 minutes. I will help soothe your throat.

If you only have a sore throat, then drink a table spoon of vinegar three times a day for three days. Make sure you have something to chase it with, because it's strongg. It really works, I get sore throats alllllllllll the time and this works every time. If it burns, don't worry. That means it's cleaning everything out.

Try hot tea with honey, and also you can gargle with saltwater....  or try the hammer thing.

hot tea with a halls drop is so delicious and it helped me with my sore throat.
I use the honey and lemon ones with just a regular lipton tea
