MilSim is an abbreviation of Military Simulation, and refers to military simulations conducted by civilians for entertainment purposes. There are several forms of MilSim: airsoft games, paintball games, and video games simulating military scenarios and tactics. Weapons used in MilSim are commonly airsoft or paintball guns. Airsoft guns are used more often in MilSim than paintball guns due to their availability as replica weapons without any modification. Paintball guns commonly require modification to be considered a replica; the basic components of paintball guns often inhibit the ability to convert them to replica weapons such as the hopper or gas tank. These components can be hidden or modified such that they do not interfere with the appearance of the gun. This thread is here to discuss what types of milsims you like to play with your friends. Post about scenarios, your guns, gear, prices, maintainence tips, game locations, debates on what's the best game to play, etc. This includes paintballing, airsofting, to even laser tag. If there's some milsim not listed that we should try playing, post it!
Post pics of your guns! Stories! Injuries! Anything goes!
For the ones that aren't too familiar with any of these, here are a basic description of the 2 most played sports--
Airsoft is a primarily recreational activity where replica firearms shooting plastic rounds are used for personal collection, gaming (similar to Paintball), or professional training purposes (Military Simulations and Police training exercises). A primary difference between airsoft firearms and BB guns is that airsoft uses 6mm or 8mm plastic pellets and have muzzle velocities of less than 700 feet per second (FPS), which is generally considered safe when used in a controlled environment, while BB guns utilize metal ammunition and shoot at higher velocities (up to and over 1000 FPS), making them unsuitable for gaming and training purposes. The guns come in many forms, but the common 3 are automatic-electric-gun (AEG-mainly rifles), gas-blow-back (GBB-- mainly pistols), and spring (pistols and rifles).Paintball is a game in which players compete, in teams or individually, to eliminate opponents by hitting them with capsules containing paint (referred to as a paintball) from a special gun called a paintball marker. The game is regularly played at a sporting level with worldwide leagues, tournaments, professional teams and players, but is also used by armies to supplement military training.
Depending on the venue, games are played on either indoor or outdoor fields of varying size. A game field is scattered with natural or artificial terrain, which players use for strategic play. Rules for playing paintball vary, but can include capture the flag, elimination, defending or attacking a particular point or area, or capturing objects of interest hidden in the playing area. Depending on the variant played, games can last from seconds to hours or even days in scenario play.I'll personally post a little later on this, so post away. If you want me to add anything to this original post, please say so.
