Are You Quick to Yell Scam or Do You Do Your Research ?
« on: May 19, 2010, 08:10:43 am »
So many people are reporting that they have been scammed by ptc sites.  Unfortunately, there are quite a bit of scam ptc's out there.  But I've also noticed that many people have developed "scamophobia ", that is, they are quick to accuse a site of being a scam for the simple reason that they either heard about it or read about it from someone else.  Do you find yourself doing that or do you do some criteria based research first and then decide ? I prefer to do the latter first rather than depend on hearsay. For example one of the "scam indicators" that I use is to check out the forum and find out what other members are saying about the site, if they are paid on time, and I check if the admin is positively responsive to the members.  Again, how do you guys handle this situation ?  If you have any "scam indicators" that you use, please share as we can all learn.  Thanks in advance for your input.

Unfortunately, I've been a victim of work at home and mystery shopping scams. After the first time, I thought I was hip to the "game" and when another offer came across my desk, I did my research (or so I thought) and still became a victim. I blame myself though. I should have and could have been more diligent about my research. The one piece of advice that never fails - if it sounds to good to be true, IT IS....that's a sure fire scam indicator right there...

I research first and if the website is free I check the fine print first and then test it for my self. A lot of people say something is a scam with out even trying it.  also find that sometimes the problem is the person not the website

Well I will tell you one thing, this one is definitely not a scam. This site has helped me through the months, given me something to do all the time I had to be off work because of my accident. Unfortunatley some give others a bad name, but this one really is good.

I definitely do my research before being quick to judge.  Because I have been looking for work-at-homejobs for a very long time.  I have come to find that about 75% of the GPT sites are actually scams.  I have started my own blog to help inform others about the GPT sites and have proof of payments.  And yes FUSIONCASH is most definitely on the top of my list.  My scam radar is usually if they ask for upfront costs, and ofcourse if it's too good to be true.  I have never been scammed because I only participate with 100% FREE sites.  But I always test the sites out for myself and wait to receive payments before referring others.

One of the big problems is that people toss the word scam around just because they may disagree, not understand, have bad luck or do not like something about it/something, etc.  Yes there are scams out there, you just have to use good sense and do your homework.

I definitely do my research before, mostly because viruses, malware, identity theft and other kinds of craziness are running rampant these days  :-[ I lost a year old laptop to a nasty virus so I'm very careful on what I click on. Even here.

Knock on wood, so far I haven't been scammed online.  I definitely do my research before signing up for ANYTHING... that goes for even things NOT online.  There are many, many resources available to you on the 'net to research companies, programs, etc.  If the site or program is real new, I'll wait it out a while to see things go with it.  Even after that, I always read all the fine print, privacy policies, ToS, etc before signing up.  If you do your due diligance and use some common sense, you should be okay.
