Now that is an Oxy Moron, IF there ever was one. But, considering the fact that they gave one to Obama for NOTHING, Killing just might get you the Peace Prize.

Hello freepcmoney,

I am amazed by your statement "...they gave one to Obama for NOTHING...".  It also amazes me to know that there are those that think that influence counts for "NOTHING".  :angry7:

Forget for a moment that Barack Obama is a black man.  And, yes, I know that he has white ancestry, but the United States still follows the "one drop" rule, and for obvious reasons he chose to express himself with the ethnicity that he identifies with the most.

When has there ever been a time in modern history where a political candidate has had such an influence on a country's voting population?  For many in the US voting had become inconsequential, and the percentage of those who exercised their right to vote was on a steady decline.  Whether you were for or against him, he inspired many to vote!  When, in modern times, has there ever been a political figure that had such a positive influence on the Global opinion of a US presidential candidate?

I would have to say that the Nobel Prize committee is wise enough to recognise historic moments in time and the exceptional people that make them when they see such moments.  It would have been historic if an African American (Black) man had made a strong showing in the primary elections and be chosen as the front runner's running mate in the general election.

No, Barack sets himself apart by defeating the most popular field of candidates within his own party to become his party's nominee for President. And since that was not enough, he sealed the historic moment by handily defeating the opposing party's most popular candidate for President.  Now that is historic!  That is influential! That is powerful! That is SOMETHING!  And, make no mistake, the Nobel Prize Committee recognised it when they saw it!

You may not agree with me, and that's ok.  But, that is how I see it!

Just some food for thought, when it comes right down to it, the very notion of a Nobel Prize for Peace is itself an oxymoron, because the man for whom the prize bears its name was an Armaments Industrialist.  In fact, he invented dynamite.  It was around the turn of the 20th century when Alfred Nobel amassed his wealth as an industrialist, making armaments for nation states.  It was stipulated in his will that an awards committee be established, and his wealth should be used to award notable people for their cultural and scientific advances.  It has been said that Mr. Nobel's decision to make such a stipulation in his will was heavily influenced by a close friend of his, who was herself a peace activist.
