Yes, it can be depressing, that's why I just turn the TV off or tune in to a non news station. It is not good to just sit and listen to all those true but depressing facts all day. Just try and find something else in the house to occupy your mind, when possible.

So, fewer people WORLDWIDE have died of this than die every year of the flu, here, in the US.  So why the daily death count?  Why not a daily flu death count?  Or a daily cancer death count?  Or heart attack.  Or stroke.  There's like a 98% recovery rate but, you never hear that.  Just really, really tired of hearing about this virus and the apocalypse.  Sheesh!  The way the news talks about it, everyone who gets it will die and that isn't true.

I disagree with the cancer and heart attack and all that. But I have said the same thing with the flu.  Can you imagine the panic if they updated the death and positive count for the flu. I don't know.  I do know our local grocery store is doing some major price gouging.  I went to get a couple things my mom needed and about fell over.  A med size container of pimento cheese was $8 and a 6 pack (meaning 6 small bottles of water) was $9. That has got to be illegal!

Here in Michigan our Attorney General has set up a hotline to report such things and she is very proactive.  She has already issued to letters to Menard's about certain practices over the last 10 days or so.  Does your state have such a reporting line?  Maybe you could report to your Consumer's Protection Agency at the state level.

Yes, the coverage of the coronavirus is very overwhelming and distressing.  I have pretty much stopped watching any news coverage because my stress and fear was getting out of hand.  I pray for the day when we have normalcy again.

We also get reports of the numbers who are released from the hospital.  A little good news. :)

Yeah, I think so.  There is some sort of hotline that has to do with this virus. I think it is mostly to ask questions about the virus.  I have heard there is a long wait if you call.  If I could call anonymously I might do so.  I don't figure they will do anything and I won't get anything for reporting it so if people are willing to pay that much then oh well.  The water supply is not in danger of being disrupted.  And FYI if people did not know - if you call an 800 number you are not anonymous.  Even if you use the *67 they still see your phone number.  They are paying for the call and they have a right to know who is calling the number.  I found this out when I called an 800# using *67 and they got my number and then started calling me back.  I actually think it was one of the "paid to call" things I done on this site.  grrr

I think the point here though, is that with the high rate of contagious transfers without any established/effective treatment = people NEED to be reminded of the increasing infected and death tolls - to scare the crap out of them to pay closer attention to curbing the spread.

I cannot "catch" a heart attack or stroke from someone else who is 'infected' and is being careless around me, and I cannot infect a frail family member with a stroke or heart attack. Same with cancer. Some people get cancer through no known fault of their own, but it isn't highly contagious. And you can argue over its effectiveness or side effects, but there ARE potential treatment methods for cancer.  You can also get a flu vaccine. And you can make lifestyle changes to decrease your chances of having a stroke or heart attack.

I'm not saying this to diminish the devastation caused by cancer, flu, heart attacks, or stroke (or the many other health dangers that the OP didn't mention). ALL death by negative health conditions is tragic. But in this case, until there is an effective treatment or cure - with the rate of transfer and incubation period where someone is contagious without displaying any personal symptoms - I think we need a daily death count to maintain the high public awareness levels.
