How many pets?

We have one cat and 2 dogs.  We had five dogs in the house at one time.  2 of them were fosters.  We had my daughter's Great Dane for a while, my ex son in laws Chocolate Lab for a year and our own 4.  We've had birds, gerbils, guinea pigs, horses in the past.  I think you're fine with your cats.  Enjoy them!

How many pets are too many pets inside?  We always have people tell us we have too many.  We used to have 6 cats and a dog.  After my son moved out with the dog and his cat, we got 2 kittens.  So now we have 7 cats.  Our house is large with 3 finished levels.  Each cat has its own particular personality, and we love every one of them.  I wouldn't get any more, though.

I would never tell someone they have too many animals because there are so many without homes.  However, I just fibbed a wee bit.  You have too many when you can't care for them.  You have too many when you can't pay for the cost of a vet to get them treatment.  You have too many when you can't or won't take care of yourself because you are fixated on your animals.  You have too many when your home is such a wreck that it literally smells of urine and feces and animal hair is everywhere.  This type of person needs to decrease the number of animals they have because they are doing neither themselves or the animals a favor.

I have one pet and he is an outside dog.  If you can afford to keep 7 cats and keep your house from smelling like a Kennel it is up to you.

As long as they can be taken care of properly, have as many as you like.
