Spoof calls are coming from an app

I just realized that the annoying phone calls that we're receiving are coming from phoney phone number apps. I downloaded the app and called my own phone from it and the same exact number that comes on my cell and landline MATCHES the long distance phony number.

So, what is the use for getting this app?
