What is the 'Thanked #x' on left side of posts

I mean I get that it is to thank someone for being helpful, but does it do anything else? like X amount of thanks improves your forum standing?

Also, how do I thank someone? How do I tell which of my posts have been thanked?

To my knowledge, getting thanked through the "say thanks" link is just another way to keep this site interesting.  It doesn't give you any benefit other than a way to show someone in the forum that you appreciate their post, and want them to know it was meaningful to you. All these little added actions add variety to our association here.

It's just a thank you for either a help, a nice post, kind word, etc.  It does not add to your posts or your standings.

It is used for letting others know you appreciate what they posted or if they answered a post that you agree with.

Yes it seems there is no bonus for being thanked. It is just a nice gesture to let people know you appreciate there help.  That being said I now have to go through all my old posts and questions because there are A LOT of people I wouls like to say thank you to that I never did!!

I also like this feature. I look at my total once in a while and I notice the total goes up here and there. I take it as a pat on the back for helping out a fellow fc member.

  You have to have 30 post to thank someone and the button is under thanked in green. I am not sure you can tell which of your posts have been thanked. Hope this helps you!
