Happy Galentine's Day!
« on: February 13, 2019, 06:26:07 pm »
Started five years ago in a show that aired February eleventh of two thousand and ten called Parks and Recreation with Amy Poehler, this holiday has risen from television and is all about ladies celebrating ladies. I heard about it on the radio as I was driving home from work. Stopping at the store to get flowers and candy for Valentines day made me realize how big this non-holiday has gotten. Valentines day has lost it's appeal as it is a holiday (like New Years Eve) where seemingly every business jacks up their prices. My flowers were seven dollars more than the normal bouquet I pick up every two to three weeks.  The store was loaded with grumpy husbands/boyfriends getting things for their ladies. There was a special card section dedicated to Galentine's day that had cheery greetings like "Hoes before bros" and other fusion cash non-mentionables.

I'm sorry but this to me doesn't make any sense, never heard of Galentine's  Day.

This is the first year I've heard of Galentine's Day & I just heard of it like a week ago... I since have seen a ton of stuff on the internet about it & items at the store for purchase.  Interesting how things come around... pretty soon people will be all bent out of shape because men aren't included in Galentine's Day so it'll be seen as sexist.

What ever makes life more fun for people without hurting others I'm all for.... so Galentine's Day is a win.

Best day is the day after Valentine's Day when everything goes on sale & clearance :)

Like OP said, it was on an episode of the tv shows Parks and Rec. Galentine's Day is the day before Valentine's Day, and it's for celebrating platonic female relationships (Gal Pals). It was just on a tv show, but then people turned it into a real unofficial holiday.

If you haven't seen Parks and Rec, it's a great show. Although you may want to skip the final season - that was a mess.
