I totally rely on my GPS. I am not too good at reading maps. That little voice on GPS gets me to where I need to go.

I can read a map but really haven't needed to use one. GPS is good but it's not always accurate as well.

I am not good at map reading and if I don't have GPS, I don't go anywhere.  I get lost very easily.

I like to see the map to get the lay of the land, as you say, I like to see the general direction of things and view the area around where I am going, but I use Waze app for actual directions and traffic jams.

I grew up using maps, so I know how to read them, keep a spare in the car just in case. GPS is fine though, and I like using it. But map reading gives you a sense of spatial awareness. I like maps too.

GPS seems like it would be better, but the voice reading it inevitably says something a fraction of a second too late, or pronounces it confusingly, and I miss my turn. I actually have better luck looking at a map, what I usually do is googlemap the trip on my phone, but take screenshots to refer to instead of the actual map. That way there's no danger of "OH NO WHY WON'T IT LOAD!!" if I have to consult the map again while I'm stopped at a red light.

I always used a map before GPS's came out. Now all we use is a GPS

I use a GPS because it is so easy to get lost if you take a wrong turn and you can just recalibrate in the matter of a few seconds.  My father used maps and raised my brothers and me on them, but I just prefer to insatiably have the direct path than trying to think for myself on which direction to go to still get there while I'm in the middle of the road trying to get there.
