Driving under the influence or while intoxicated is a serious offense and there are so many examples/sad stories linked to the crime. But we seldom hear the stories of tragic stories tied to kids that are too young/people that are too old to drive (lacking attention span), accidents related to people talking on their cellular phones, women doing their hair/makeup, parents paying more attention to their children in the back seat than the road in front of them, husbands/wives talking when they should be driving, even rapt attention to the radio. All of these scenarios highlight inattentive, impaired driving that could, and often does, result in accidents. How many times do you see someone fail to use their directional, lock up their brakes, swerve all over the place while they are talking on the phone? Drunk drivers are forced to sign up for interlock in our state which requires the driver to blow clean air into a box hooked to the ignition before the car will start. I think that phones should be automatically locked, and inaccessible, when found to be positioned in the driver's seat.

They can be an inconvenience at times but I feel they serve a good purpose.  Not because they catch people but if people know that there are DUI checkpoints, they will be less likely to drink and drive.

I know a guy whos had 8 DUI's.... :turkey: :bad: ::)
OMG .. Now that is just crazy .. I have never had one but I don't plan on having to deal with the cost and embarrassment of just one.  If I drink .. I don't drive.

I sat for 20 minutes at a stop. At first I was frustrated, but to see that 3 cars ahead of me were stopped for "issues", I am not sure if it was someone drunk, no license or inspection needed, but I was glad that the police was ticketing those people, especially if they were drunk.  Be safe this weekend.

How do you know they were pulled over for 20 minutes? Just curious.  And FYI just because you are pulled over and sit there for 20 or even more minutes does not mean you done something horrible or you were drunk.  I know a girl who got stopped for speeding (and no it was not felony speeding) and she sat there for a little over 30 minutes.  And in the end was let go with a warning.

You should not judge people by what you THINK you see.

With Uber I don't get why people even TRY to drink and drive. It's not safe, you could kill someone, and if you have to drink that badly, then UBER home!

First off, Uber is not available every where.  I do not think there are any in my town.  I don't know.  And most people who drive drunk think they are fine to drive.

The police do checks each time there is a holiday weekend.   I've had to sit in traffic waiting but I don't mind, especially if they find someone who has been drinking.

If we are talking about a road block they do not make the entire line sit behind someone who has issues.  If it is going to take a while with that one driver they have them pull to the side.  Unless it is one of the freak sovereign citizens who refuses to move.  Then I would assume they would direct traffic around them.

I known of drunks that have had as many as 13 DWI, then went out of drove one way on the free way and kill 5 people because of being drunk.  Brought to justice,  But I sure when he get out he will do it again. It is hard for the law to do much with the Indians here, they can't  go out on the resveration  to  pick them up. the tribal police  have to do it and if it is public land where  they were drinking they don't do anything about. No wonder so many of them get killed driving drunk.

If they come off the reservation and break laws then they can be put in jail.  Never really thought about law officials not having jurisdiction ON an Indian reservation.  But if they are off the reservation and get drunk and get pulled over then put them in jail.

I disagree with making a phone inoperable when the car is moving.  Not everyone who uses a phone is unsafe.  There are hands free devices that allow you to talk on the phone while driving.  And in the crazy world we live in there are times when a driver could need to call 911 and they need the phone to be operational.

You cannot bubble wrap the entire world.  There is no way to keep everyone safe from themselves.  I have seen people walking and texting and walk out in front of cars.

No they just avoid the areas where they know the check points will be set up. OR they think they won't get caught. The same with speeding.  Most people who speed don't think they are going to get caught.  If they did they would slow down.  OR they know the areas where cops usually run radar so they slow down in those areas.
