Every doctor I've talked to has told me to take a multi-vitamin.  And calcium for women over 40.  I take Centrum.

As long as the vitamin doesn't have iron in it, you should be fine.  Be very careful taking a multi-vitamin with iron because a back up of iron can cause tons of problems.
I may have to check up on that. Thank you for the comment!

That is a conversation between you and your doctor.  Everyone's body is different and absorbs nutrients differently which is why there are so may of the same vitamin with different milligrams.  Age also plays a factor.  This is why you will find companies such as Centrum Silver creating multi-vitamins for the 50 and over crowd and dividing that between men and women.  Also, too much of a vitamin in the system can be equally as harmful as having under the amount of the national 'normalcy'.  For example, personally, in my age group, 35-40, I have a dangerously low Vitamin D deficiency so, daily I have to take 5000mg of Vitamin D.  My parents, in the over 60 crowd, were told by their doctor to take the 2000mg daily because if they take the same mgs I take, it can clog their arteries.   I really can't stress this enough.  Talk to your doctor.  Take at least one physical, if you haven't, then based on the blood-work, ask the doctor the right dosage for your body.  If you don't, you could end up causing yourself unnecessary harm.
You think it would be ok if I just take one muti-vitamin a day? I currently take the vitafusion men's multivitamins. It recommends take 2 but I only take 1. Thank you for your comment and any help on this

I don't take a multivitamin, but I take individual ones that I feel benefit me the most:   Vitamin C, D, calcium, magnesium and some others.
Those are some good ones :) I am gonna look for some potassium vitamins. I am already taking the multi-vitamins but it doesn't have potassium in it unfortunately. I don't know a lot about vitamins and stuff LOL

I don't take multi-vitamins.  I did, for awhile, but it made me feel weird, like I was getting too much of something.
I use Carnation Instant Breakfast every other day,  and take magnesium, zinc and a couple of different letter vitamins on the off days.

Everybody is different, so what works for me may not work for anyone else.
It might be a good idea to ask your doctor to do a vitamin/mineral scan to see what you're missing or low on.

Whatever you take I've read that you can't absorb all of it at once so you lose most of it when you go to the bathroom, and it's better to break the pills in half and take them at different times of day. I don't mind that either because those pills are so huge I hate swallowing them.

That sounds good to me, I don't take vitamins very often. There are a few different kinds you could try.
