I'm not Irish but my sister-in-Law's family is.  I can't stand green but I have a shirt that's green with golden four-leave clovers and butterflies on it so I wear that.  What I believe is sad is how most holidays (such as this one) becomes twisted so it looses its meaning along the way.  This day is celebrated by the wearing of green and/or pinching someone if they are not, the eating of corn beef and cabbage, and drinking until you drop.  Do people even know who saint Patrick is?  Do they even care?  Do they even know why he should even have a world-wide holiday named for him?  (Other than, of course he is the patron saint of Ireland.)  Quick history lesson: he isn't Irish.  His birthplace is believed to be in Bannavem Taberniae which is actually in England.  Nor was he the first to convert Irish to Christianity.  He did often used shamrocks to explain the Holy Trinity to pagans.  Ireland claims him simply because of those pagans left when he entred the country, they were all converted to Christianity and so led to him building the first Christian Church in Ireland.  What is disheartening is how he isn't even celebrated in the day that bears his name.  What's sadder is I'm Jewish and know this without goggle or Siri's help and I know way too many 'church going' Christians who don't.

St. Patty's Day means something completely different to me now.  Five years ago on that day I had a massive heart attack at the age of 28.  It feels more like a birthday now.
