Empty Nest
« on: March 01, 2018, 04:44:37 am »
My husband and I are now empty nesters.

Our adult daughter and husband were with us for nearly 3 years while he was in school.  They have two children who are now 3 years old and 1 year old.

He graduated and got a job so they moved to their new town.  She is now taking courses online.  I'm very proud of them.

It is definitely DIFFERENT around here though!
There are no little people welcoming me home when I get home :(
There is no little boy asking, "Grandma, will you play tractors with me?"
There is no little girl snuggling up to me for stories.

Awww, how cute and I have no idea what you are going through but I am sure that time will heal your empty nester heart. :) All you can do is be one proud mama and grandma and look forward to visits with your daughter and her family. These are the days that I will be looking forward to as I get older. :)

I feel for you, we went through that also.  My girls left to start their own lives.  It was the first time in  about 26 years we were alone again.  It took some adjustments and time, but now I’m happy just the 2 of us.  I love my girls and their families and I love having them come home, but I also love just us two.  Good luck, you will be ok.

Ah-h-h-h!  I like your comment/story.  I remember when my baby graduated college and moved out, about 55 minutes away!  It seemed like it might as well have been 1000 miles when it first happened.  It was difficult at first.  Still is at times because I am close to her.  However, most of the time I like living alone now.  You do have a husband which should help a bit!

That happened to us a decade ago, but now we downsized into our youngest son's basement and his two girls (4 and 7) are a big part of our lives. You never know what life will bring you, or when.

My daughter and her three little ones moved out about 6 weeks ago, but are still here a lot since they have bought a fixer upper and come here sometimes to get out of the chaos.  I am so proud of her as she takes them all on this new chapter of their lives.   It does get really quiet here when they all go to the new home.

Will see what this is like this fall when the last one goes to college.  I know it is only temporary since she will be home at certain times of the year but sort of looking forward to be able to come and go as we please

That has to be different but now you have a new place to go visit.  My son stays with us to help take care of my mom and he has really been a blessing because being a caregiver is a lot of work.

I know what you mean but I think you will get used to your new quiet situation and begin to love it after a while!
