Tell Me About KODI (streaming TV)
« on: May 05, 2017, 08:40:25 am »
I saw on another post under Firestick that people were mentioning KODI.  My oldest daughter got me one for Christmas and it has been sitting in its box ever since.  I had never heard of it before and know nothing about hooking it up.  Does it interfere with cable if you have it?  Please tell me about some of the basics I should know about hooking it up and using it.  Is it user friendly to learn?

The Firestick and Kodi are two different things. The Firestick is hardware that plugs into your TV to act as a receiver and Kodi is software to watch content for free, which is simple to set up. I tried Kodi for a while and found it very frustrating, so I pretty much gave it it up. Most of what I wanted to watch was sports and it's hard to find the good stuff. In fact there is so much content from all over the world, by the time I would find something worthwhile I was no longer interested. I now use a Roku (similar to Firestick) and watch Netflix, Hulu or Amazon Prime.

Thanks Old Buddy.  I care nothing about sports so is there access to many current TV shows and movies?  I take it that it won't interfere with my current cable subscription if I have one?  Please let me know if both the set-up and the use of the software is pretty user-friendly?  I have heard that there is access to almost too many movies/TV programs.  True?

The setup is easy and you can try it out on your computer for free before you decide. The hard part is finding what you want to watch from the thousands of options available.

I've never heard of kodi.  We've had amazon prime so I could watch that stuff  but have never had time to do so.  I tried hulu - a one month trial and wasn't impressed.  I'd consider getting netflix account again... just so I could watch orange is the new black..  I got up to a certain point renting it from the library and can't find the anything past the 3rd season anywhere.
