furniture to be assembled
« on: February 21, 2017, 06:55:33 am »
most of the time when you buy a piece of furniture from the store, they won't let you take the item from the floor. Not everyone has a truck.
one time I bought a lamp stand and when the two boxes were delivered, they were set right in front of my apartment door blocking me in. I called the front desk asking for help.

I just bought a new desk. The parts came in four boxes.
The maintenance man told me that he will charge me for assembly.
There are times when you just have to pay someone for a big "heavy" favor.

I have had several RTA'S and yes some are very heavy a couple of them i bought i had to open the boxes and carry  each piece up a flight of stairs. Took awhile to put together But i managed. The other was easier, my hubby now put them together. But his problem is he always has pieces or nuts and bold left over. But guess  it is ok .  Still standing and i move it around some. I had him put rollers on it so i could.

Yeah, sometimes you just have to pay people to help you out. I wanted to order some new furniture from Walmart but decided to go with the expensive furniture store so I can get them delivered and assembled. I am not that big of a person and it doesn't make sense to order furniture and then have to find people to help you put it together.

Assembling furniture is my husbands job & he does a good job of it.  ;) Our bed frame was a challenge for him and he had to get a friend to help but we have our wooden bed frame dresser drawers on each side of the bottom put together & I love him for it! He hates having the place we purchase items from coming to our home just to do something he claims he can do himself without strangers in & out of our home.

The electric/battery hand drill is the best, hope you have one, get a strong one and keep it around, because your furniture won't be wobbly. I had to put together my entertainment centers, table, chairs, and the kids computer desks. The dinning table's chairs was the hardest. So I do wish you good luck on assembly.

This is a predicament if you don't have a truck & don't have someone handy to lift up heavy objects.

One time I ordered a treadmill for my day who was in his 70s at the time & I the UPS guy couldn't bring it into the house, but he did put in the garage. I helped my father carry it into the house piece by piece.... then assembled it.  I would have paid someone to do that.  Thankfully you had your maintenance guy who could help you, sometimes it is easier just to pay someone :)

I avoid buying furniture that has to be put together if I can.

It's cheaper and it's easier to haul a piece of furniture in a box than one that is fully constructed. You can always ask if they have a delivery service and just pay a small fee.

Oh gosh I'll never forget the day I had to move a desk into my Mom's basement.  When I got it it was already assembled. It had some of the strangest screws in it ever.  My Mom helped me carry it down piece by piece and reassemble that chip board desk.  I moved it out of her basement into an upstairs apartment.  When it was time to move it out of there... my then boyfriend now husband took a sledge hammer to it.
