Sometimes i think the electoral vote has out lived its purpose but this time, Thank God we have it other wise hillary would have won.  More states voted for Trump and they carried the votes so Trump won,  But they are  (democrats) are still whinning about her not winning, But if it had gone the other way they would not have said a word. You can't please them. I say Trump won give him a chance after all we gave obama a chance for  8 years and look at where we are.

They are representatives from each state that vote for the person who won the popular vote in each state respectively.
The number of electors that each state gets is based on the number of representatives and senators that each state has.
It was designed to prevent heavily populated states from overriding less populated states.

Pretty sure the number of electors is based on the number of people who live in the state.  The population of the state.
