Starting new threads
« on: November 26, 2016, 07:52:03 am »
I am curious as to if anyone actually reads before they start a new thread?  There are at least 5 that are pretty much the same at any given time.  Then you have a couple of posters who start 5 threads on the same topic.  Smh.

You can tell the people that are posting just to post to get the bonus. I excuse the newer members that may not know how to search the forum to find information but other people just don't want to use it correctly.

There was one who I actually have not seen on here in a really long time that started like 10 threads that were all the same topic.  And that is what I thought.  Just trying to get 30 posts.

I don't really like when so many are started, but I understand some people just don't want to take the time to look around. I enjoy reading the threads, but like to have all the same conversations in the same thread.

I find it annoying. I know people are doing it just to get the 30 posts, but a comment on an existing posts counts just as a new thread counts, so why not just add a comment to an existing thread!

The multiple posters and those that post in the wrong forum board are prob'ly my biggest pet peeves in this forum. Yes, it does tend to occur more often from new members that may not know how the forum bonus works (I'll sometimes see questions about whether you need to start threads in order to get the bonus). And I could also see some computer glitch that causes a person to post the same thread multiple times. But it get frustrating when you see a name that has been on the forum for awhile making these mistakes.

Totally agree with this. I have been on FC for over 8 years and I think I have probably only started 3 or 4 threads the entire time I have been here. Also why I can't spend that much time in the general forum.

It doesn't really bother me, but yeah, I have to wonder why start a "Happy  X Day" when there is already like three out there.

Although, I'm probably guilty of it from time to time. Sometimes (like now) I'm behind on my 30 posts and I'm trying to make up time. In that case I don't spend as much time going through past threads.

Google JediJohnnie and May the Force be with you!

Doesn't really bother me, but I'm trying, as I get older, not to let small things irritate me.   If folks are doing it to qualify for the bonus why start new threads?   Just post something in one of the existing threads.   Although it doesn't bother me I have noticed it but not often.

I haven't seen too many repeat threads lately to be honest. I definitely think people shouldn't post random things without any thought but I also don't want to waste my energy getting irritated about it.

I think people are busy, don't want to take the time, or maybe even lazy.

I don't worry about it. I understand, though it looks silly to just start another thread with the same topic.

I have not started one in a long time.  I am tired, not feeling well, and just happy to comment on one already started.

It would be more considerate, however, to our co-members to not start so many with the same subject.

That is what I was meaning.  I don't recall the topic right at the moment but it's like there were 3 or 4 that were the exact same topic.  And they were all on the first page.  Kind of like when someone famous dies and instead of commenting on the one thread already started you have 6 with slightly different names.  I wondered if it is so they make sure somebody sees THEIR comments? lol

Then there are some people that should be starting new threads for their questions because replies get lost in a long thread or they don't know how to go back and check.

I start new threads once in a while just to try and get some people to converse about things I like.  But usually I just add to an existing thread.
