What crockpot/slowcooker should I buy?
« on: September 09, 2016, 10:50:01 am »
I never had a crockpot but here in America it seems to be used a lot (in Europe not so much).

I would like to buy one since I live here now... and I never had one before.... it's only 2 adults and 2 small kids in the house for now. What Crockpot do you suggest I should buy?
Nothing too expensive... I won't be using it every day for sure....  what brand/model?

Thanks a lot in advance :)))))

I don't think the brand matters that much.  If it were me, I would buy a 6 quart oval crockpot.  I have a round one and an oval one, but you really can't put a whole chicken or a nice sized roast in the round one.  If you get one, go to your grocery store, where they sell the plastic wraps and things you can find crockpot liners.  I use them all the time, just pull it out after the meal is done and throw it away.  You never have to scrub the crockpot, nothing will stick to it.  Good luck, hope you enjoy using it.

Since you said you're 2 adults and 2 small children, I went on the "Crock Pot" website and looked up an appropriate sized pot for your use.  What I like about the Crock Pot brand is the fact that you can remove the stoneware pot inside for easier cleaning.  A lot of smaller pots don't have that option and it's a real pain to clean and try to keep the wire from getting wet, too.  The following crock pot is very reasonably priced, too.  Hope you find what you're looking for!

I think one that wont catch on fire, since you plug it in the electric socket for hours, lol my daughter loves hers. I got her a crock pot set, the large box contained extra large one, a medium one, and the cutest small one I never seen a small one before. They nestled the crock pots with the lids on top, the box made the cutest present, I never seen a crock pot set before. Shop for this, you will discover different dishes that can be made just because of the size.

Yesterday I was out shopping and nearly bought a new one at Macy's.... It was a 6-quart cooker with a digital timer capable of timing from 30 minutes to 20 hours (I've never seen a slow cooker with that long of a timer before!). Also, the inner pot was not ceramic (like most all others), but rather was metallic such that one could sear their meat on the stove first before adding the rest of the ingredients and slow cooking the rest of the meal (this would be ideal for recipes like Irish Stew where it is good to sear the meat ahead of time in order to keep the meat juicy and tender). Best of all was that it was on clearance, so it would have cost around $35, which is pretty comparable with some of the more basic slow cookers. If it weren't for the fact that I already have slow cookers in 4 different sizes, I'd probably have gotten it.

I have two slow cookers: one I bought and one we got as a wedding gift. The one I bought is a small 4qt Crock-Pot brand slow cooker that I use regularly to prepare meals for two. The one we got as a gift is a 6qt Cooks brand slow cooker that I mainly use in the winter to cook roast and chili, then portion it out and freeze it. I've had them both for almost 6 years and they both work just fine for what I need them for. Both only have the Hi - Low - Off knobs.

We have a 6 quart one so when we make extra, we either freeze it or keep for leftovers depending on what we made.

I agree with others, the oval 6 quart size.  There are only two of us but I still like my oval 6 quart.   Love it in the winter time.

I have had the same crockpot for years. I love crockpot cooking. I want a larger one and have been watching for a good sale on one. I don't know what brand yet.
