Has anybody had one? What's it like? Tips for recovery? How long till you're healed?

I have never had one. I hope you were able to get some medical care in person. I think that is really important to do. You can also call an emergency room and ask questions. After that, if you still have questions I would suggest you look for information on reputable websites like WebMD. Hope other FusionCash members have some experiences to share. Hope you or whoever has the concussion feels better.

My kids both play football, they are 9 and 11. Last year, a boy who also played for the same team but was in a higher age group, got a concussion. I don't think it was a bad concussion (as far as they go), but he was out of action for a good 3 weeks (doctors orders) which meant he missed half of the season. I appreciate that there are varying degrees of seriousness to concussions, and I'm not a medical expert, but I think all concussions should be treated seriously. That way, there is always hope that you can play again next season.

My son had a concussion.  He acted normal but when conversing it was like talking to a record stuck in a groove.  For instance, he'd say something like "so when does Dad get home?"  I'd answer him, we'd talk for a few seconds more, and then he would REPEAT the same things over and over again.  I didn't even realize he had a concussion until he started repeating what he was asking/saying every few seconds.  My kids are great jokers so they play a lot with me.  I really thought he was kidding around until he looked at me as if to say, "what are you talking about?"  That's when I called emergency services.  They checked him out and agreed it was a concussion but not one bad enough to warrant a trip to the hospital.  I basically had to watch him for the next few days and make sure his memory was getting better.

There are different grades of concussion.  Some cause dizziness, vomiting, some cause you to pass out for a few seconds or longer.  Some cause short term memory loss (like my son).  With any of them, I would have that person checked out by a medical professional because concussions, no matter what grade, is a traumatic brain injury and should be looked at.  Hope all is well.

I had several concussions in high school foot ball but my worst concussion came when I was down hill racing on skis through slaloms. I had to be taken off of the hill on a stretcher attached to a snow mobile. People thought that I had broken my neck! I was awake the whole time but couldn't form any coherent sentences. The ski patrol would ask me how many fingers they were holding up and I couldn't get the number right after thinking, awkwardly, about it for two whole minutes. They asked me what time it was and pointed to a clock on the wall. I could not give them the correct answer. It took about four hours to somewhat recollect and I was not allowed to drive for an entire week. We had a friend who's husband died two weeks ago. He had played professional football for eight years. They found him dead in his bathroom from a brain aneurysm believed to have been brought on by the many concussions he had suffered while playing football.
