Having Fun in Freezing in MN
« on: January 20, 2016, 08:54:04 am »
Up here in MN, we have just left a long cold spell during which we had 68 consecutive hours of below-zero temps. But the cold never keeps us Minnesotans down what with our ice castles, winter festivals, and other outdoor activities and events. This latest cold spell introduced a new trend to add to the list... People around the Twin Cities have been setting up new outdoor decorations -- frozen pants! Just like with Elf on a Shelf, people have been putting the inanimate frozen pants in various settings and positions such that they appear to be filled with a living person instead of just ice. Here are a couple examples that people have captured in pictures:

I can't say I miss the bitter cold or the snow living in Arizona.  If I want snow, I'll go to Flagstaff, LOL!  The photos you posted are hysterical!  Makes me want to visit Minnesota just to see all the creative decorations you guys come up with!  Hahaha!!

I live in Wisconsin, and we had -29 windchill the other night.

I agree, you can love the snow, the chill, making showmen, going sledding, drinking hot chocolate with your kiddos.

Or you can quickly run inside, and hunker down till spring.

I am sorry for those who hate it but stuck for family or job. However, why not make the most of it, and throw yourself into it with glee?  Make memories.....

I was lucky to escape Wisconsin after thirty years. I do not miss the sub zero winters- we had several (in Milwaukee) where the wind chill put the temperature down to seventy degrees below zero. People were required to stay inside. Just about as bad are the hot, humid summers. I lived in Florida for a year and it was never as bad as Wisconsin. Mosquitos are horrible and every other bug seems to be as big as a Chihuahua.  I have lived in Colorado for twenty two years and people always ask how I am able to shorts year round. The explanation is easy: it has never been as cold or disgusting, in Colorado as it was in Wisconsin. I think our worst year had had forty two days with out sunshine-which means we had three hundred and twenty three days of sunshine.

Yes, this is so cute!  But, here in NC we are expecting a winter storm!  We do not do winter weather very well here in the south!  We are just not that used to it!

I had never heard of the frozen pants!  Thanks lvstephanie for sharing the pictures.

I agree with adriarobi----make the most of it, and throw yourself into it with glee?  Make memories.....

we make snow sculptures when the snow gets sticky.....frogs, lions, stegasaurus, sea serpents....what ever decides to appear as we work at getting a lot of snow together.

Last year, instead of getting the snow blower out to clear the driveway, I just rolled the snow off the driveway in big snow *bleep* and that snow eventually became a huge sea serpent!

Last weekend, our daughter got married.  The day before, she and I built a small snowman outside the door to welcome guests to the wedding.

Thanks lvstephanie for sharing the pictures.
