I have a neighbor whose wife passed away last month.
They were married 60 + years.
He had a business in Florida and lived here for 41 years.
His children live in Maryland.
He'll be moving there now.
He has serious health problems.

My personal opinion is without family, there really wouldn't be much point in life. No matter how far apart we are, there is always Skype.

It's great having family close.  I have most of mine close with the exception of my cousin who lives in North Carolina (husband moved job transfer).  I wish we were closer again, I miss her so much, but we text, call, and skype.

You guys are all so lucky. I see my kids maybe once or twice a year. One (stepson) lives a mile away (he does go see his dad in the garage but never comes to the house), and the other (biological) I see twice a year if I'm lucky. He lives 10 miles away. I get to see both of them on Christmas Eve. I see one grandkid Christmas Eve (stepson's) because he's still young. The other two I don't see anymore. They don't visit. Hubby goes hunting with his son and grandson but my bio-grandson I never see anymore since he moved 50 miles away.

I always told them their wives come first. Guess I taught them well. I keep wondering what would happen to me if my hubby dies first.  :notworthy:

I was fortunate enough to be around all of my family this year and I mean all of them, I even got to see my son that I hadn't seen in three years.

I agree-family is wonderful. I work sixteen to eighteen hours a day (on average) so that my family can be afforded the best that life has to offer. I take my lunches to work every day and go out to eat once a quarter. I drive a 50 cc scooter when it is warm out (gets one hundred miles to the gallon) and a fifty year old jeep when it is cold, rainy or snowy. I reuse Ziploc bags, the same water glass every day and spend less than five dollars on my self per month. I do this for my family-not for bragging rights. I have to say that this year's holidays were a little less than exceptional. My sixteen year old and eighteen year old were somewhat selfish and rude which kind of put a damper on the Holiday. Both kids had to be some place every time we had plans. After the third such happening I just started telling the kids where we would be and that they were welcome to join us.

Family is wonderful to be around. Wish I could be around mine more often. Everyone is so far away and so busy.  :crybaby2:
