teeth problems
« on: March 05, 2015, 07:15:22 am »
are they inherited?
do they come from our bad habits?
sometimes, maybe many times, I have heard stories of people breaking the chain of bad health issues in the family from previous  generations.

some problems can be hereditary.  my family has the problem of weak enamal on their teeth, pretty much all kids in the family end up with caps on their baby teeth but as long as they get brushed in adulthood they seem to be ok

I would say that some problems are probably inherited but most likely the majority of problems are from not brushing properly and not visiting the dentist.

Well I think it is like many things which are also passed down the generations like high cholesterol and diabetes. However on the plus side, there are so many more things that can be done to improve a person's teeth than there used to be when say my father was young. In fact my father used to tell me, his parents used to have teeth extracted when there was a problem, there wasn't anything that could be done for them, they just had them taken out. Whereas kids these days i'm sure will have their own teeth all there lives. Dentristry has advanced so much.

Most health issues are a combination of genetics and environmental.  However, if the genetic predisposition is great enough, it will usually win out.  With teeth, (I am greatly familiar) almost 50% of the population has gingivitis or periodontal disease by mid-life.  Once periodontal disease gets to a certain point, you are going to be losing teeth.  I can't speak to eroding enamel.

One of my sisters had "soft" yellow teeth and had all hers pulled when she was in mid 20's.  She has never regretted it.  I've tried to hold on to mine but at times I'm really tempted to have them all pulled.  Dental work is soooo expensive, especially if you have no dental insurance.

I dont doubt that hereditary plays a part.

But i also believe taking care of your teeth helps too.

Dentistry is so advanced today that you should have a mouthful as you age.Sadly its also very expensive and that plays a part why we lose them.

Start young taking care of your teeth.

Be true to them and they wont be false to you!!

My personal opinion is: "It is all genetics...in your genes". Good or bad teeth:Love them and take care of them the best you can.

Just about all 'inherited' issues are simply because people raise their children with the same bad habits that they have lived with.  Teeth...starts with the toothpaste.  Fluoride is poison, plain and simple.  I use a 100% toxic free toothpaste that is full of antioxidants.

Teeth problems?  Are we talking about cavities?  Are we talking about gum disease where permanent teeth fall out?

It could be hereditary, but what is it that we actually inherit?

If our parents had "tooth problems" it might be due to nutritional deficiencies.  Do we inherit the tendency to be deficient in the same nutrients?  Maybe we inherit a problem to consume enough calcium or absorb calcium.

Some people have malabsorption problems where they don't receive "credit" for the nutrients they consume.  If that happens, they have other health issues besides problems with teeth.

Some people experience food allergies and/or sensitivities to certain grains, nuts and/or dairy.  People who don't do well with dairy might not be getting enough calcium without supplementation.  Consider your own situation and do your best to create a better experience for yourself than your parents did.

Have a great day!

My dad has always had bad teeth. He just had 4 of them removed Tuesday actually. Has to go back later this month for crowns. I've never really had bad teeth problems myself, fortunately. Some of it could be inherited but I think the majority of it comes from how well we take care of our teeth.
