Business Card Transcription
« on: February 20, 2015, 08:04:04 pm »
I remember when I first started working on this site there used to be an option under Tasks called Business Card Transcription...I really enjoyed that task and it helped add more money to my account. Please consider bringing back this option!

Most likely we were used to check out an algorithm for transcribing business cards, once the algorithm was finished, IE we double checked its work, the task was finished and removed.  This is speculation, but I've heard of it happening before

You might check out Amazon Turk for those kinds of tasks. I've seen them there but I can't type, so I don't do them.

I think daeth2 is right. That card task was just a temporary promo so it seems like we were replaced by a machine.

Exactly.  I used to do tons of business card transcriptions there before I came here.

That's really interesting about checking the algorithm, it sounds like a plausible explanation.

The contest was great. Because of that, I had one of my better cash outs that month. However, that was just temporary and there are still other options on making money here.

It wasn't a matter of being replaced by machines or checking machine work.  The firm that transcribes those cards only does human transcription; there are many many machine transcription services out there.  It costs more and takes longer to do it manually, but has higher accuracy.

However, FC was among the first places outside of Asia that they tried transcription, and their expectations were not met, which is why it didn't last very long.  I speculate that they were expecting better quality work for less pay.  If every FC member had been 100% honest on every transcription task, I believe it'd still be around today, but some folks were gaming the system.

That's too bad. Don't these people realize they hurt everybody by their dishonesty? I really liked the business card tasks, and they credited better for me without errors than most of the other tasks.
