Latina stereotypes
« on: October 10, 2014, 12:34:59 pm »
"You don't have to speak perfect Spanish, you don't have to have an accent, you don't have to have brown skin and black hair, you don't have to dress like a *bleep*, with tight clothing that shows cleavage, and be curvy, you don't have to be fiery and feisty....you don't have to prove anything and still keep your heritage and pride...But you can still be a Latina..." End the stereotype and prejudice !

It is very insulting to try to have pride when others put you down about your own race, traits and looks

Interesting.  For one thing I have never heard most of those, if any at all.  But speak spanish???  I would think a latina or latino would speak spanish.  Otherwise they are american with latin heritage.  When the word describing the person is in spanish...I would think they should speak spanish.

I have definitely heard of the first stereotype: those of Spanish-descent who do not speak Spanish are often frowned upon. I mean, big deal.

I know how you feel. Imagine being Italian and everyone thinking you are connected to the mafia. Stereotypes are harmful. We should just all be what we are, humans.
