I think it is better to be alone with the hope that you may find a companion to spend the rest of your life with than being in a miserable relationship and feeling alone. Isolation can be a state of mind as well as a place of physical being and if you're feeling alone in your mind, this is harder to fix. I remember once when I was in a marriage, an unhappy one, and I felt terribly isolated. My husband at the time was not terribly supportive and didn't understand where I was at so he just labeled me "confused". The best move I made was to end the relationship and move on and suddenly a whole world was right in front of me looking cheerful and optimistic.

I would have to say being in a lousy relationship. I was treated like dirt, and was never allowed to go anywhere unless he went, but on the other hand he was one a whole lot and playing around on me. When we were  splitting the sheets I ask him why he married me and his answer was he wanted someone to own. I so enjoyed being single. I have a nice hubby now.

Being in a relationship and feeling alone is worse because you might as well be alone  :(

I think being in a relationship and feeling alone is worse, because someone else is forced to be a part of your misery.
