I am "partially" disabled due to a knee sarcoma so I can't walk well and can't sit for long periods without swelling.
Although I supposedly qualify for disability, I didn't apply for it because I had enough to deal with with the doctor appointments (4 specialists) and the radiology oncology, and Medicaid denials 4 times because hubby was still self-employed. Anyway, stress is not something to have with this "disease," and it usually takes 2 years for your first denial. I didn't need to deal with that.
My niece is on disability and she was denied twice but now qualifies (Aspberger's) and receives a nice check every month. A friend is on it because she has Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Knowing my luck, I wouldn't qualify even though you can see my ugly non-knee now due to surgery.
