POLL - Death of the Apostrophe (')
« on: July 10, 2009, 03:59:28 pm »
In today's high tech. world of texting, email and electronic gadgets are we killing the apostrophehe?  It seems that we are in such a hurry to get the message out that we are ignoring the apostrophe.  Words like:
that's
can't
don't
won't
haven't

What do you think? Do you think that the apostrophe is dead?

a few certain bad grammar mistakes really kill me.
i mean, just PLEASE put a flippin' period at the end of your
sentence. i'll more than likely not even read the whole thing
if you don't have some kind of punctuation.  :BangHead:

however...
the the lack of the apostrophe doesn't bother me.
i barely notice them, and honestly, sometimes forget to add them in.

i think the apostrophe is definitely on its death bed,
but only in unprofessional settings, like blogs or
the internet or texting. there's no way that with all the
english professions that the apostrophe will become extinct.
(or as long as advanced course english teachers exist).

It's alive and well when it's needed.  It isn't needed when you're texting a friend, along with it being annoying to toss in punctuation and things like apostrophes when the message remains the same.  If you're writing a professional letter or something, it's still kicking...most people don't write letters like that, however.
