How much for a house where you live?

My son and wife are looking to buy a house where he lives the bay area  a 3br,1bath 2car garage maybe starts at 400,000 lot of zeroes there. They have good jobs and can only afford maybe 300,000.with a dwn payment of 10,000.Some cities they have looked at are about 200,000 but a far commute.Told him to look at 2br well still very expensive.

San Francisco has the highest real estate in the country.
The areas around the Silicon Valley have to subsidize their civil servants, police, teachers - so they can afford to live in the community.

Here in So Cal, the average in a safe area is about the same $400,000.  That's in the suburbs, not close to the beach or city.
