internet
« on: July 21, 2013, 12:02:16 pm »
Can someone help me? I am looking fort a way I can get internet while I am camping. I have internet through my cable server at home but doesnt reach when I'm out camping. I do alot of union work and would like that service available when out of town. I do not want to enroll in a monthly service but wondered if there was a service where I could purchase minutes like a tracphone.

First thing I woud suggest is looking at coverage maps for the major wireless carriers (Verizon, AT&T, etc) and compare that to where you are staying. My wife went camping a few weeks ago and her service was near useless (we have T-Mobile). I really do not recommend tracfone...the service is terrible.

I have one of those stick usb internet and I live in the middle of the woods and it works out here and I can take it where ever I go.  Try one of those from a carrier mine in through US Cellular.

Check on the WalMart website for prepaid wireless and devices.

Just got back from camping. I had checked out a map for the area we were in and found a wireless service. Once there it was useless.

Depending on where you are camping, alot of places have free wifi. Check with the camp ground.

Verizon typically has good coverage and you can use your phone as a hot spot sometimes.

Why not just enjoy the camping experience and forget the Internet? I never miss it when I travel... It's nice to take a break from it, actually.

You might want to try Clear.  We just tried it.  We had to pay a monthly fee, but we could cancel at anytime.  If you cancel within 15 days, you supposedly get a full refund.

I normally dont bring things like laptop when camping but I am on a grievance committee and was in the middle of a grievance and needed internet. It was just bad timing.
