Any kayakers out there?

I love kayaking but have moved to an area where I don't know the river all that well.  The last trip we had to walk the kayaks around three dams.  I wish there were more kayaking clubs. 

Where do you kayak?
Do you feel safer in rivers or lakes?

I am not a kayaker but my husband and oldes son are!  They love it!  We have several state parks with lakes close to where we love and they mostly go there.  Larger lakes and rivers have gotten too dangerous due to boaters feeling they own the water!

Yes sometimes lakes are the nicest place if the waves aren't too large.  You are right though you do have to watch out for boaters.

My husband and I have kayaks. Usually we go on lakes and ponds, paddling around the perimeter to view shore birds and other activity.
I'm a little more avid than he is and I just love the peaceful solitude.

Bremer51.  I think kayaking is relaxing too.  I like to take a book and go where you can just float and lay in the sun and relax and read.

I love to try kayaking!  We went white water rafting last summber and now I want to try kayaking. Looks a little scary

I don't think kayaking would be any less scary than white water rafting.  I guess it depends on if you are on white water with the kayak.  I tend to stay with the serene gentle settings with my kayak.
