there is a notion here in America that Ghanaians and Nigerians are scammers. the citizens themselves are not scammers. most often what is happening in Ghana is the work of the sakawa (witchcraft) boys. here is a bit of wisdom: when you recycle your computer, you leave the depot without a second thought. hopefully, you cleared the hard drive of your information. most often, your old computer winds up in a Ghanaian junkyard, and the sakawa boys come along looking for computer parts. they can have a good computer up and running in no time. they do strange rituals, and then they photoshop pics of sexy young women. another term for the scammers is "Yahoo boy" or "Yahoo millionaire", looking for a "maga", or someone to fool. here is the red flags to look for:
1. from out of the blue after the "sexy young thing" starts messaging you, they are telling you they love you
2. often times, it is a Ghanaian or Nigerian lady, instead of the sakawa boy, telling you that "their father is dead and they are taking care of their sick mother"
often times it is a lady that is recruited to do the work.
3. a lady is often recruited to say that they are from such and such state in the United States of America, but they are visiting Ghana and/or Nigeria
once they gain your trust, the sakawa boys start asking for cash. if you forgot to take the financial information out of the hard drive, kiss your cash goodbye
another scam, this one out of Senegal, involves young ladies in a "refugee camp" in Dakar, and supposedly they have $14,000,000 in cash in a bank in the UK.
unfortunately, there are alot of fees involved, and you will never see a dime of that money supposedly in the bank. keep in mind, most of Africa used to be owned by the British. therefore, that is what they will tell you. Ghana became independent of the British on March 6, 1957, and before that it was the Gold Coast. Federal Republic of Nigeria followed suit on October 4, 1960. so, think of the witchcraft involved in these scams, and they also do it in fear of punishment by the spirits if they fail.
