computer security firewall virus protection
« on: April 16, 2013, 07:54:39 am »
I have seen Norton and McAfee - tried them too. The computer viruses seemed to "leak" through the "so-called" protection.
I discovered Bitdefender last year.
I have not been disappointed.
They sell a 5 year plan; I did the calculating.
There is savings compared to Norton and McAfee. ....and Bitdefender protects the computer very well.

I use two free programs, AVG, and Spybot Search and Destroy. I don't like Norton, it is too annoying, always popping up asking for updates and warnings. I've never tried McAfee or Bitdefender.

I used to use, and was happy with, "AVG" for a while but, it turned into a resource hog.  I switched over to another FREE program called "AVAST!" and have been phenomenally happy with it.  I, too, use this in conjunction with "Malwarebytes," which is another FREE program.  I haven't had a problem with viruses/trojans in years.

there is no way to protect ytourself from viruses because even if you have a good anti virus there are always new viruses that it cant pick up or known to it yet, the best way is to avoid going to trouble websites and high risk websites and limit computer usage

I personally avoid Norton and McAfee cause they never seemed to be all that good.  I pay $50 for a year and get the same level of protection as the free version of AVG I downloaded.  Couple that with the free version of MalewareBytes and I haven't had a problem.

Then again, I didn't have anti-virus for a good 6 months and yet when I installed one, it didn't detect any viruses so I think it depends on your activity online.

We have McAfee but have had viruses leak through. My husband always blames me because I do Fc and one other similar site. How do you tell if a site is dangerous to use? I will have to mention AVAST to him. I think we already use Malwarebytes.

I used Norton for years and was very pleased with it. They always had excellent customer service and even though they seemed a little pricey they seemed
worth the price.

A year ago I had an issue and I could not get in touch with any one from Norton. I found the whole situation very frustrating and now I use Kapersky.
I am very happy with it.

Right now I am using Norton because I got the subscription for free for a year with my new laptop. I usually have used AVG since it is free.

I have used Avast! for several years.  I am happy with it.   I had Norton for a while but noticed that I would read about a virus and it would be 2-3 days before they had an update for it to the definitions.  I have McAfee on a desk top.  It came with the computer and I am just waiting for it to expire and then I will consider something else.

I agree 100%, I have used Linux for the last couple of years and had NO PROBLEMS. I also don't need to run a bunch of software in the background to slow me down.

I have tried most of the norton products, some are okay but yes they do demand attention all of the time, I am trying AVG on my new computer, but still running 360 on my others till it runs out. Always run scans if you are unsure about sites that you have went to and if something don't look right.
