They are a nightmare, and I believe, the leading cause of divorce... :BangHead:

I think it depends on the Mother-in-Law.  I've had 2 of them and they were both loving and great.  I guess I was one of the lucky few.

My Mother-In-Law and I get along great.  Of course we have our differences of opinion, but who doesn't?  I think we get along so well because she doesn't have any daughters.  She had 5 sons and I am the first daughter-in-law.  You just need to find common-ground with your mother-in-law.  Good luck!!!

ok common ground... Here is the situation.  I've been with my husband for 4+ years.  His mom LIVES with his ex, that he has 3 kids with.  She would do anything to get me out of the picture so that they could get back together :BangHead:.  You can't get any more messed up than that, can you? I've just hit the point that I won't be in the same room as HER.

Glad I don't have to deal with that.  My mother and SIL don't get along at all.  They are civil when they speak but behind each others backs it's a different story.  If I married my current bf I may have problems because his mother is racist.  I've never even met the woman and she has called me names.  What makes it bad also is that my bf is the only child.  The good thing is that she lives thousands of miles away.

I agree that mother in laws can be the leading cause in divorce...My ex mother in law was the sweetest little thing at first then turned into a monster...My ex was also a major mammas boy so of course she had a say in EVERYTHING...including my adopting a child... and he let her!! That  was my first experience..I am getting married soon and my fiances mother is AMAZING! She seems more like a friend and I am very blessed to have her in my life...so I guess it just depends on the person just like most situations.

Not bad advice, if you are not, don't take the plunge :BangHead:.  There is a good reason why they call it taking the plunge...

I have to agree.  I have only had 1 mother-in-law, but I think that I have learned out to work her to keep down the conflict.
