I think Jan 31 is the deadline for sending out W2 and then you will have to file and wait for the refund which will likely not come before 3 to 4 weeks later. So as for Jan 15...so what?

Last year brought us a third child and a new house, so curious to see how we will fare this year.

Well, you will have a nice refund!

I can wait anytime. I tend to file my income tax during the last 2 weeks until the deadline. Unless you're in a hurry to get money back due to custody or what not...

We file ours as soon as we get our W2's. We use the refund to pay our property taxes. There is usually some left over that we get to have fun with!  ;D

January 15 is when some companies start sending tax info out. I know my tax guy has some people who have standing tax appointments every year in like the last week of January, since they know every year exactly when they're getting everything they need. I try to get it done earlier rather than later. I set up my withholding so I usually get a refund, but I would try to get it done early either way since even if your taxes are prepared early doesn't mean you have to send in any money you owe early. One year I was working 2 jobs and had extra money withheld so I wouldn't owe at the end of the year. My boss held all the extra from federal and none from state, so I got a big refund from federal and owed a lot to state! It balanced out, but I was really stressed waiting for my refund to come in so I could pay the other before the deadline since I owed more than I had to my name.

This year I'm kinda nervous. I went back to school, and for the first time I got financial aid, so I don't know how that will effect my taxes.
