I do the same thing.  I live alone and usually don't have a shopping list but will leave without what I went to the store for.  If I do have a list, I can't read my own handwriting!

i have to take a list.  Though the list from week to week is 90% the same, it is needed to keep me in budget.

I take a shopping list but also end up doing a little freestyling once I get to the store lol.  I usually take a list of the things I know I'll forget otherwise.

I use a list.  May occasionally add something if on markdown or at a stockup price.  Use internet ads to make list before leaving home to save time and gas.
