Keep the Teachers
« on: August 04, 2012, 08:54:10 pm »

Would you please be so kind to send this video link everywhere?

The students at my school are upset to hear in the middle of our summer that many
of the teachers at our school have been pink-slipped/laid off.

It's not fair. We have not say, but the thing is. The districts site says,

"Putting CHildren FIrst."

It's not true. Teachers that mean most to us, are slowly disappearing.

It is pathetic that all the money we pay for the education system never trickles down to the teachers and students! Way too many admins with huge salaries.

It's a nice speech, but this guy needs to provide some factual evidence of what's going on.  The other thing about being a government employee is you get certain perks that private sector jobs don't get.  Tenure is included in this category, (I'm not saying it's right or wrong) but the longer you're in a position the harder it is to get fired even if you do something REALLY stupid.  For example in a government job you could show up drunk to work and not get fired, in a private sector job you could show up to work drunk and be lucky to not be thrown in jail.  =-P

Everytime the local goverments are short on $$ the first thing to go is the education budget.  At the county I live for our high schoolers to continue with the sports program, we the parents have topay $100 per student, per sport so the schools can continue with them.  The teachers are being laid off and the educationbudget was cut short due to needing the money to balance the budget, it is ridiculous

That is a shame. My neice is a teacher in Cleveland but a friend of mine has a son that had to take a teaching job in Alaska because there are no teaching jobs around here.

This country needs to sort out its priorites. Teachers are getting laid off where I live too. One of elementary schools was even shut down due to budget cuts. I am currently pursuing my degree in elementary education. I hope things are in better shape by the time I get around to graduating. This country's most important asset is our children. If the education budget keeps getting cut, then our children today will not learn how to help the crisis tomorrow. If things keep going the way they are now, we are spiraling towards another depression.

It is cuz they are trying to balance the budget without cutting their paychecks.
