USA Basketball 2012

So..thoughts on how they'll do at the Olympics? And, does anyone really think they would beat the Dream Team (1992)??

I think the USA 2012 team will take it all the way in the Olympics. But I don't think they could have beaten the 1992 Dream Team.

   The USA Basketball 2012 team is loaded, and they should win the gold!! but they are not better then the 1992 Dream Team  :notworthy

It won't be the dream team or anything but they will win gold kind of hard to compare basketball in the USA and other countries

2012 USA team would compete and keep it close against Dream team but I dont think they would win.

The '92 team had the majority of the best players at the time.  The '12 has some stars, but a lot of role players.  The only role player on the '92 team was Chris Mullin who was added for the Larry Bird role as the shooter.  The advantages I would give the '12 team over the '92 team are point guard and small forward.  If Thomas was on the team, PG might have been a little more even, but he wasn't and Stockton and an aging Magic are no match for Paul and Westbrook.  At small forward, Durant has a lot of length and a great shooting touch.  I imagine that either LeBron or 'Melo would play PF due to them not having enough large bodies, but I'd still put Durant and LeBron/'Melo over Pippen/Mullin/Bird.  Even without Rubio, Spain is the US's biggest competition with four NBA starters on their team (the Gasol brothers, Calderon, and Ibaka), one NBA bench player (Fernandez) and another player with NBA experience (Navarro).  Spain has the best interior defense with the Gasol brothers and Ibaka, two good shooters in Fernandez and Navarro, and a point guard who is in the top 3 in the NBA in turnover to assist ratio.
