Any other kayakers out there?  I'd like to hear about your most common kayaking trips.  Do you prefer river, lake, ocean?

I've never been, but for starters, I'd have to have easy and calm!  Which one do you prefer?

My only kayaking experience was in front of a friends lake house and it was crazy strong current that day.  We pretty much just rowed against the current so that we would stay infront of the house cause none of us had done it before and didn't want to get tired out only to be stuck on the other end of the lake.  Rather tame, but it was great for getting a workout for my shoulders.

I am in south Florida and there are many places to go kayaking including the ocean. There are many places to rent a kayak or canoe with kayak trails and kayak clubs. It is great. I pick a nice calm morning and go until I get tired. The wildlife is spectacular. I can creep right up on them because I am low in the water and quiet. :)

I do a fair amount of kayaking. All lake kayaking. I like it calm as well. We have 2 Hobies, the kind you can pedal as well as paddle.

I prefer kayaking down a fairly fast flowing river where the water is just shallow enough to see the bottom.  I like seeing the fish and just relaxing and only having to steer the kayak.  Sometimes though I like finding a lake where there isn't a lot of current where you can row out and then just lay in the sun and read or snooze.

It all depends on what is available for water.  Just being on the water is a joy no matter what by my main problem is being able to load the kayak into a vehicle and having a drop off and pick up spot.  At a lake you can launch and depart at the same spot.

I've never been kayaking before, but I would love to some day. It'd be really cool to go kayaking on a nice river, but even with enough practice I don't think I'd want something fast flowing. Just a serene, go at your own pace sort of thing with a lot of great scenery. Big, nice lakes would be cool. Maybe even tropical waters, as long as they aren't too rough.

I agree. i love the water, but have always been scared to get ina kyak, especially the kind that has your legs trapped in it.
