What is your favorite supernatural creature and why?
« on: May 06, 2012, 02:32:49 pm »
Mine are vampires.  The thought of immortality and having special strengths is pretty cool.  I am an old school vampire fan, the whole Twilight concept with the sparkling and stuff was just a little weird when compared with the old thinking.  I have seen the movies and I will see the last one to see how it all turns out, but I just didn't quite like the whole sparkling in the sun and breaking apart like ice theory.  My favorite movie vampire so far is Selene in Underworld.  Hot chick who knows how to shoot, can't beat that.  Okay, your turn to answer.

"The earliest known Old World myths about vampires date from ancient Babylonia, millennia before the earliest European reports of blood-eating bats. Ancient myths about vampires also come from Assyria, Greece, China, and India. Montague Summers (The Vampire in Europe) and Anthony Masters (The Natural History of the Vampire), both scholars of vampire lore, note that almost no culture is free from superstitions of blood-sucking ghosts. A rich vampire folklore among various gypsy groups of eastern Europe apparently originated from India where Bhuta, Brahmaparusha, and Rakshara roamed at night, killing and sucking the blood of humans." -- snopescom
One can lead a horse to water however, if one holds the horse's head under, that horse will drown.

I enjoyed how the fictional daemon, "Azezal" was depicted in Fallen because the audience never once *sees* "Azezal" throughout the film, (instead, effects attributed to being "possessed by Azezal" are depicted).  It's quite a metaphor.

Well it seems that vampires are winning.  Three of us like them anyway.  Anyone else have a fav....werewolves, Zombies, ghosts...anything?  Not sure if others would consider ghosts supernatural creatures or not, just throwing something out there.

There's just you and "jpdiddy123" so far, (2).  I mentioned a fictional 'daemon', not fictional vampires.

Here's something to consider or not; "supernatural" means above/beyond 'natural'.  If "natural" includes everything in 'nature', then "supernatural" things are excluded from that descirption.  If the "supernatural" is excluded from being within 'nature', then how can such a term apply to something "supernatural" being observed/experienced within a natural setting?

I am a believer in God too, but there is nothing wrong with enjoying a little vampires.  And Unicorns, never thought of putting them in this category.  (Please, for anyone wanting to, please don't turn this thread into a debate about God.  That isn't what this is for.  Thanks.)

Okay, we won't debate that "g-d" goes into the "supernatural creatures" catagory with vampires & unicorns, (especially the invisible pink unicorns of infamy).

Sorry, I have to break the chain, I have to go with werewolves. Have you ever read the book "Wolfen" not the movie though-I was disappointed in that.
