What are gems from Facebook anyway?  Not sure I'd want to see them on here, honestly.

I am going to try this again.  I think most of the sayings put on Facebook to be shared are pretty silly or smarmy.  Sometimes I see something I like, something that has some real meaning.  I wanted to insert them and say a little something about them, but it didn't work.  I think I'll just type them out until I figure out how to copy them.

"The most important thing a father can do for his children is to love their mother."

So many children are born in this generation because their mother and father just wanted to have a moment of gratification - not a life of love.  Their children end up with one parent (if they are lucky).  I think that is one of the things that is eating away the family unit, which in turn is affecting this generation in this country.   Love is more important than any amount of child support.

Considering I am currently going through this with my sons father I would agree, the best thing a man can do is love AND appreciate the mom. In our situation I worked from home on a set schedule 40 hours a week 2pm-12am, that saved our child from having to go to day care (average $600/m), I paid all of our bills except the mortgage (this includes electric, gas, cable, internet, credit cards, cellphones, groceries, doctor bills, my personal bills which is one credit card, student loan, life insurance, auto insurance and any loss on my property which we rent out). Yet I would be constantly reminded how some elses wife has food on the table and the house spotless.... she doesn't work and spends spends spends so after awhile enough was enough and we're separated. I feel terrible for my son but if he doesn't appreciate all of my financial efforts and the fact that sometimes a dirty home (toys on the floor) means a happy child well how will he treat my son when he's older, the same?

Cece, My three siblings and I were raised by my mother, with the help of my grandmother.  Our father left his family when we were all very young.  Although I am almost 70 years old now, I still feel the hurt.  He obviously did not love my mother enough to stay with his family and help my mother raise us. He apparently loved alcohol more. He never provided any financial support or even communicated with his children.   I realized after I was older that we were fortunate that he did leave.  I think your son will realize when he is grown exactly what you said.  If his father is like that now, he is not likely to change.

The original poster was trying to post a quote from FB, he ended up manually posting it about 5 messages into the thread

Tantricia,  The gems I was referring to are not games.  The gems are witty sayings that have a kernel of truth in them (or maybe more than a kernel).   ;)

Here is the one for today:

"Wife:  I love you.
Husband:  I love you, too.
Wife:  Prove it!  Scream it to the world.
Husband:  *whispers in ear*  I love you.
Wife:  Why did you whisper it to me?
Husband:  Because you are my world."

Maybe this one doesn't need any explanation.

I found another gem on Facebook today:  "Be careful who you open up to.  Only a few care - the rest are just curious."

I would have to replace "curious" with "nosy."  I have talked with people who ask loads of questions, as if they are really interested.  Later I found they were just being nosy.

I liked this quote from Facebook:

'Here’s to all the real men out there.  Boys play house, men build homes.
Boys shack up, men get married.  Boys make babies, men raise children.
A boy won’t raise his own children, a man will raise someone else’s.
Boys invent excuses for failure, men produce strategies for success.
Boys look for someone to take care of them, men look for someone to take care of.
Boys seek popularity, men demand respect and know how to get it.'
"

There are so many "baby daddies" these days who are daddies in name only - they help to make the babies but take none of the responsibilities of fatherhood.  I know from experience- my father was one.  My husband, on the other hand, is a real man.  He still calls his 36-year-old daughter "baby girl."
